Striker steals Magpies' hearts

Chorley

Chorley's new loan striker Darren Stephenson is fast on his way to becoming a fans' favourite after scoring the Magpies' winning goal against Ilkeston.

The 19-year-old Jamaican born forward scored on his debut in the 1-0 victory following his switch on Thursday from Blues Square Bet Premier Southport. Stephenson came through the ranks at Bradford City, making one first team appearance at Valley Parade and delighted his new fans and manager Garry Flitcroft at Victory Park by delivering three points.

Stephenson has enjoyed loan spells at Hinckley United, Woodley Sports, Stocksbridge Park Steels and Southport, where he netted twice in six appearances at the end of last season. The forward joined the Sandgrounders on permanent basis in the summer of 2012 and is rated as a quick and hardworking player who's tipped for a big future in the game.

He was the second new face to join Chorley last week after goalkeeper Jack Cudworth moved from AFC Telford United.
