Jordan Broadbent got off to a winning start as caretaker manager of EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Sheffield FC on Tuesday night following the departure of manager Mick Wadsworth.

Broadbent stepped up from assistant manager to take charge of Tuesday night's 2-1 home win over Kidsgrove Athletic, 24 hours after Wadsworth, pictured, resigned.

Despite being asked to reconsider his decision to go on Monday afternoon by the First Division South club's officials, the 64-year-old stepped down after less than six months in charge and two days after Saturday’s 1-0 FA Trophy exit against Witton Albion at Dronfield - Club’s third defeat on the spin.

Club chairman Richard Tims said: "Mick has resigned for personal reasons. We didn’t want him to go and tried to see if there was anything we could do. We were aware he had some personal issues and had recently given him some time away from the club.

"We have a management team at the club so it’s business as usual at the moment. Jordan has already shown he is very capable and he will have the help of Ian Whitehorne and director of football Paul Rogers."

In a statement on the club's website, Broadbent thanked Wadsworth for helping him develop his career and vowed to continue his policy of developing youth at the world’s first football club.

He said: "I’d like to thank Mick for all he’s done. He’s been a great mentor of mine for a good few years now. There’s no-one more disappointed than me to see to see Mick go and we lose his massive experience in the dugout."

Former Huddersfield Town manager Wadsworth worked under Sir Bobby Robson with Newcastle United and England and also held roles at Southampton, Carlisle, Huddersfield, Oldham and Hartlepool before assisting Chris Morgan during a spell in caretaker charge of Sheffield United. He was appointed in May and left having won nine and drawn three of his 22 matches at the helm.
