Wednesday night's Premier Division action review

Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division

There were a couple of matches in the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division on Wednesday night but eight goals were scored, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

At Silverlands, Buxton in the end were comfortably beaten 3-0 by a Worksop Town side who have moved themselves into the top ten after a fourth successive win on the road.

Steve Towers gave the Tigers a crucial lead right on the half-time whistle. It then took until nine minutes from full time before Worksop could really confirm victory when Lee Beeson converted from the penalty spot and then Craig King added a third four minutes later.

The other game saw Whitby Town leave Stocksbridge Park Steels in second bottom spot after a hard-fought 3-2 victory at the Turnbull Ground.

Both sides had very good opportunities to score before Shane Henry eventually managed to do so for the home side after 32 minutes – seconds after Nathan Mulligan's free-kick had been headed off the line. Four minutes later and this time there was no stopping a Mulligan effort from 20 yards. But right on half-time, Steels got back into the game through Danny South.

In the second half, Henry hit the bar and Graeme Armstrong did likewise with a header, leaving many in the crowd wondering if it was not going to be Whitby's night! And 14 minutes from time their fears were increased when Nathan Joynes equalised with a header.

However, just six minutes later Mulligan took his tally to eleven when he converted his sixth penalty of the season to win it for the Seasiders and lift them to eighteenth in the table.
