Playing style behind Everall switch

Former Stafford Rangers striker Simon Everall says his decision to re-join former club Nantwich Town is purely based on 'football reasons', writes Lewis Deakin.

Everall, 22, has agreed to re-sign for the Dabbers after an unsuccessful few months at Marston Road in the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division.

The striker’s final appearance came against high-flying Marine in Tuesday night’s 3-1 defeat at the Arriva Stadium. Everall admits he's disappointed to be leaving and will miss the fans and his former teammates.

Everall said: "I will miss the incredible support of the fans and my team mates who were a brilliant group of people to work with."

The former Crewe Alexander forward insists playing styles were his main motive after struggling for goals at Stafford with only five so far, his last coming in their third victory of the season against Ilkeston.

"Stafford’s style of play doesn’t suit me; they do not play through balls for their strikers," said Everall. "Nantwich have good midfielders and I feel my game would improve if I was playing with a playmaker, someone who can supply through balls and create clearer cut chances so that I can score goals.

Everall added that Stafford’s midweek defeat had led him to reluctantly inform manager Greg Clowes of his desire to move on before paying tibute to his former manager.

"Greg is the one of the nicest people I have met in football and I would love to have stayed with Stafford," he said.

The striker is in line to make his home debut for Nantwich against North Ferriby United on Saturday 3 November.
