Wednesday's First Division North action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

New Mills moved up to second place in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One North on Wednesday night, but could only manage a point from a six-goal thriller at Ingfield against mid-table Ossett Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Millers travelled to Yorkshire in the midst of a plethora of games to catch up the rest of the top five. Mathematically, they are the only side who can prevent Skelmersdale United from clinching the title, but will need to win virtually all of their remaining matches now after dropping two points on Wednesday.

James Hampson gave the Millers a 15th minute lead that Jimmy Eyles cancelled out ten minutes later. Eyles then gave Town a half-time lead when he notched his second seven minutes before the break. But five minutes after the interval Nicky Platt equalised, only for Eyles to complete his hat-trick with a sublime lob. It looked as though that was going to be good enough to be the winner, but Dave Fitzpatrick popped up with an 86th minute leveller for the visitors.

The Millers moved into second, a point in front of Ramsbottom United, Trafford and Mossley, who are all on seventy points.
