Wednesday's First Division North action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Lancaster City produced a heroic display on Wednesday night at Heritage Park against fourth-placed Darlington 1883 to pull off a vital win in the chase for the Evo-Stik Northern League's First Division North play-offs, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

In front of a terrific crowd of 956, the hosts were quick out of the trap and missed a number of good chances to take the lead before Tom Kilifin was played through and he rounded Darlo keeper Bell to slot home on 36 minutes.

The second half saw Darlo have several opportunities to equalise but a combination of poor finishing and heroic City defending kept them at bay. And they fell to a sucker punch five minutes from time when Jordan Connerton set up Ryan Winder to beat Bell from the edge of the box to make it 2-0 and game over.

City's win takes them to sixth place, level on points with fifth-placed Bamber Bridge.
