Carlton Town were looking to take over top spot in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division South table on Wednesday night when they hosted struggling Lincoln United at Stoke Lane but missed their chance, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.
Despite playing their part in an entertaining game, Carlton will have been disappointed to have been held to a goalless draw. Neither side managed to create many clear cut chances or were willing to give away too much, understandable after both were on the wrong end of five goal deficits last weekend.
Lincoln went closest in the first half when Josh Bowden just failed to connect with a Sean Cann cross. At the other end Sam MacVicar and Blair Anderson both saw Lincoln`s on-loan keeper Michael Emery save in one-on-one situations late in the second half.
The only other game on Wednesday saw Mickleover Sports move into fifth place after a 1-0 success over a still win-less Kidsgrove Athletic side at the Raygar Stadium. The only goal of the game came nine minutes into the second half when Nic De Girolamo struck.
