Wednesday's Premier Division action review

Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division

Ashton United maintained their unbeaten start in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's top flight on Wednesday night with a 2-1 at Silverlands over a Buxton side who'd only been beaten once this term prior to kick-off, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Recent signing from Nantwich Town, Ashley Young, gave the Tameside visitors a 34th minute lead, although it did look as though a Buxton defender had got the last touch.

Ashton held that lead – and played some impressive football – until the 77th minute when the Bucks equalised – and this time it was definitely an own goal by Chris Lynch. But with four minutes of normal time remaining, Ashton maintained their unbeaten start under their new management team when Joe O'Neill headed home what proved to be the winner.

In the night's other Premier Division game, King's Lynn Town recorded back-to-back victories after a comprehensive 4-1 success at Sandy Lane against Worksop Town, despite a 15 minute delay to kick off caused by motorway traffic.

A fine strike from James Cottingham gave Worksop the lead after 27 minutes but Shane Tolley levelled four minutes into the second half. Ryan Fryatt headed the visitors in front five minutes later and then Rob Duffy, on as a substitute, bagged a brace in the 80th and 88th minutes – the first from the penalty spot after Lawrence Gaughan had been sent-off - to ensure victory for Lynn.
