Leek Town moved into third place in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South table on Wednesday night – four points behind leaders Coalville Town with a game in hand – after beating lower mid-table Gresley FC 2-0 at Harrison Park, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.
Gresley beat Leek 4-1 at the Moat Ground just over a month ago so it was expected that the home side would be looking for revenge. However, for the first half Gresley gave as good as they got and went close to getting on the scoresheet themselves.
But Gresley were caught cold seven minutes into the second half when a free-kick from Dan Shelley found Andy Kinsey, who beat `keeper Mats Morch from close range. Leek eventually doubled their advantage with three minutes of normal time remaining when a ball was played back to Morch and Shelley was able to rob him and slot the ball into the back of the net.
