Wednesday's First South action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division South

Mickleover Sports had the opportunity to narrow the gap at the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division South table on Wednesday night but had to be content to reducing it by just one point after being held to a 2-2 draw by fourth-placed Carlton Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Nic De Girolamo gave Sports a 19th minute lead that Blair Anderson cancelled out six minutes later. Karl Demidh restored the home side's lead seven minutes later and they held that until seven minutes from the end of normal time when Dan Elliott popped up with Carlton's equaliser.

Belper Town moved up to sixth after a 2-0 Christchurch Meadow win over Scarborough Athletic.

Boro, who have not found the step up from the Northern Counties East League all that easy, fell a goal behind after 15 minutes with Sam Duncum the scorer, pouncing after the normally reliable Jon Froggatt's penalty had been saved by Boro keeper Joe Cracknell.

The visitors battled hard to get back into the game but were finally killed off in injury-time at the end of the game with a neat finish by Glynn Cotton.

The other game saw second-bottom Kidsgrove Athletic go down to a 3-0 home defeat to Loughborough Dynamo, who are now ninth.

Kris Nurse opened the account for Dynamo after 23 minutes and then Ryan Tinsley added a second 0n 58 minutes. Nurse's second of the game 11 minutes later completed a comfortable evening's work for Tommy Brookbanks' side.
