Wednesday's Premier Division action review

Two of the three scheduled games in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division went ahead on Wednesday night – the exception being Buxton's game at Silverlands against Ilkeston FC, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

At Sandy Lane, Worksop Town were looking to push on towards the top five against a visiting Rushall Olympic side already holding a play-off place. But a rousing second half comeback from the Pics saw them claim all three points and rise to third place in the table.

Steve Towers gave the Tigers a 28th minute lead and when big striker Tom Denton doubled that five minutes before the break, it didn't look good for Neil Kitching's side. However, on a night interspersed with intermittent flurries of snow, Rushall produced a gritty second half performance that ended up with them travelling home with all three points.

The Pics reduced the deficit through Dave Walker after 64 minutes and then two goals in a three minute burst near the end from Gavin Caines and Walker again – his twenty-third of the season – won it for the visitors.

The other Wednesday game saw Ashton United come out 2-0 winners at Hurst Cross against Blyth Spartans. Ashton exacted revenge for their 4-1 defeat at Croft Park in February by comfortably taking all three points. Goals from substitute Chris Amadi on 70 minutes and Tom Moore in the final minute of normal time ensured that Spartans suffered a second defeat in four days on trips to the North West.
