Wednesday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Blyth Spartans returned to the top of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division table after winning 2-0 at the Turnbull Ground against struggling Whitby Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Seasiders may be down amongst the relegation places at present, but in front of their biggest crowd of the season – 367 – they pushed their high-flying visitors all the way.

Indeed, it wasn`t until the hour-mark that Dan Maguire managed to break the deadlock from close range to give Spartans the lead. And he doubled that lead to effectively kill off the hosts after 76 minutes.

Spartans moved three points clear of North East neighbours Darlington 1883 at the top of the table.
