Tuesday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Nantwich Town moved to within two points of the top of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division table on Tuesday night after beating Stourbridge at the Weaver Stadium, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The visiting Glassboys were looking to move into the top five with a victory, but, just when it looked as if they would leave Cheshire with a point, Liam Shotton popped up with a 90th minute winner for the Dabbers.

However, fourth-placed Salford City were on the opposite end of a last-gasp goal from Matlock Town as they looked to put more pressure on the top three.

A crowd of 427 saw last Saturday`s FA Cup hero, James Poole, give the Ammies a 17th minute lead. But Laurie Wilson equalised with eight minutes of the first half remaining.

Salford then looked as though they`d won it when they were awarded a last-minute penalty that Ritchie Allen duly converted. But seconds later a free-kick from Danny Holland pulled the Gladiators back on level terms.

Workington AFC moved up to tenth in the table after a 2-1 Borough Park win over Skelmersdale United in front of a crowd of 439.

The Reds trailed to a goal from Ged Kinsella five minutes before half-time. Gareth Arnison eventually levelled on 77 minutes and then Gari Rowntree popped up with a home winner with less than four minutes remaining.

The bottom two both lost again with basement side Ramsbottom United going down 2-1 at Silverlands to Buxton, despite taking a 14th minute lead through Marcus Poscha.

Ashley Burbeary equalised just before half-time from the spot and Bradley Barraclough won it for the Bucks on 67 minutes.

The Daniels were on the wrong end of a 5-1 drubbing at Dales Lane against Rushall Olympic.

Jake Heath after 11 minutes and Luke Benbow nine minutes later gave the Pics a two-goal interval cushion. Massiah McDonald added a third on 56 minutes and Heath doubled his tally for the evening on 77 minutes.

Kris Taylor made it a nap hand for the hosts with six minutes to go, although new signing Andrew Phillips netted a debut consolation for the visitors in injury-time.

Ashton United pushed Marine AFC further towards the drop zone with a best-of-five win at Hurst Cross.

Chris Baguley bagged a first half brace in the 27th and 44th minutes. Aaron Burns made it 3-0 just before the hour-mark, but the Mariners made a fight of it, reducing the arrears to just one with goals from Danny Mitchley immediately after Ashton`s third and Andy Owens 12 minutes from time.

The game at The Grove between Halesowen Town and Mickleover Sports ended all-square at 1-1.

Aaron Daniels put the home side ahead after 36 minutes before Andy Dales rescued a point for the visitors with less than nine minutes remaining.
