Wednesday's Premier Division review

Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division

Stocksbridge Park Steels finally managed a second win of the season in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's Premier Division on Wednesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The last time Steels had tasted victory was on the opening game of the season when they beat Droyslden 3-1 at Bracken Moor to begin what has become a terrible campaign for the Bloods.

This time out, Nathan Joynes scored the only goal of the game at Buxton's Silverlands after 13 minutes take the points. It was Joynes' third goal in two games against the Bucks, having bagged a brace in Steels' 3-2 defeat back in early September.

Wednesday's other game saw Worksop Town move up to eighth in the table following a comfortable 3-0 win over Whitby Town at Sandy Lane.

The Tigers, who were beaten by high-flying Chorley last Saturday, bounced back with goals from Tom Denton after just four minutes, a Lee Mason own goal in the 31st minute and Leon Mettam from the penalty spot with 11 minutes remaining.

And to make matters worse for the visiting Seasiders, they had Lee Bullock dismissed for a straight red for a professional foul on Mettam seven minutes from time. Kevin Burgess followed him for an early shower after receiving a second yellow card for a deliberate hand ball in the 89th minute.
