Wednesday's Premier Division review

By David Watters

A crowd of 494 left Steel Park rather disappointed after the only game in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division on Wednesday night between Corby Town and Stafford Rangers ended goalless, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

There was very little serious goalmouth action at either end, with Rangers having the better of the opening period, with half chances for Jack Sherratt and a slightly more clear cut opportunity missed by George Cater. But at the other end, the Steelmen failed to seriously trouble Stafford `keeper Adam Whitehouse.

After the interval the home side looked a little more menacing in attack but still struggled to put the finishing touch to their moves and, perhaps in keeping with the game, the closest Corby came to scoring was when Rangers` Leon Miles sliced an attempted clearance just inches wide of the post.

Corby have now drawn three of their four matches so far this season, while newly-promoted Stafford have five points from three matches played.
