Wednesday's South Division action review

By David Watters

Stocksbridge Park Steels moved into fourth place in the EVO-STIK League South table on Wednesday night after a quite amazing 5-1 win at Ashby Avenue against Lincoln United, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Steels were already leading 2-0 with goals from Scott Ruthven after 12 minutes and Matt Reay on the half-hour mark when, three minutes later, Reay was sent-off for handling the ball on the line. However, his brother David Reay helped his team out by saving Danny Brooks` penalty.

Matt Cotton reduced the deficit five minutes later, only for Joe Lumsden to make it 3-1 to the now ten-men Steels a minute before half-time. Five minutes after the restart, the visitors gave United a mountain to climb when Richard Stirrup added a fourth.

Lumsden then made it game over, despite their reduced numbers, when he made it 5-1 just past the hour-mark. And with 17 minutes to go, Lumsden missed the chance to complete his hat-trick when his penalty crashed back off the woodwork!
