The Scholars had risen to sixth spot and could have gone level on points with United's county neighbours Stamford AFC had they made it six wins. But they fell behind to a 34th minute penalty awarded for handball which Paul Grimes duly converted.
However, the visitors were level right on the stroke of half-time when they too were given a penalty which Jack Langston scored from. On 67 minutes though, the home side were back in front through Kallum Smith and they made sure with a third in the 87th minute from the returning Sean Wright – a goal that delighted everyone.
Wright has only recently been given the go-ahead to resume his playing career following a second opinion on a heart medical condition. He had to stop playing last September and helped on the management side before being told he could get back onto the pitch to add to his 300-plus appearances for the club.
