Wednesday's South Division action review

By David Watters

The outside play-off hopes of Stocksbridge Park Steels took another blow on Wednesday night when they suffered a second successive defeat, this time a 2-1 reverse at lowly Kidsgrove Athletic, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Athletic, who needed the points at the other end of the table, brought to an end a nine-game winless run despite the visitors opening the scoring in the 32nd minute - Brodie Litchfield receiving the ball on the edge of the box, cutting in and curling the ball in to the corner of the net.

Grove managed to equalise in the 71st minute when recent signing Eric Graves was brought down in the box and the referee awarded a penalty which Kyle Diskin duly converted. Kidsgrove`s winning goal came in the 86th minute when Diskin’s corner was cleared to the edge of the box and the ball fell to defender Leon Ashman, who blasted the ball home.
