Wilson snaps up free agent

Robins manager Kevin Wilson has boosted his strike force by signing Cameron Darkwah following the promising youngster's release by Conference Premier Stockport County.

And the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League manager reckons Darkwah's signing on Tuesday won’t end his search for a proven goal-getter as the Robins push for promotion.

Manchester-born Darkwah scored twice in 17 appearances at Edgeley Park and also had loan spells with FC Halifax, Colwyn Bay and Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Mossley, where he scored five goals in five games. The 20-year-old was a trainee at Stockport before being released at the end of December when his contract ran out.

Wilson admits he's excited to have lured the talented forward to the Premier Division club's New Manor Ground. He said: "I've seen a fair bit of him over the years and I've always felt he was a player who had something about him. He's got good pace and an eye for a goal and although he’s one for the future, you never know, the future could start this month.

"It would be silly for me to put him under too much pressure because winning a place ahead of Gary Ricketts and Aaron Hooton is a tall order in itself. But I think he has good potential and if he takes on the challenge with the right attitude, we could be good for each other."

* The Robins are so worried that the cold weather will continue that they already fear Saturday's scheduled home game against Nantwich may have to be postponed. Officials are urging fans to check the club's website for updates. Last Saturday’s postponed match at Buxton has now been re-arranged for Wednesday 27 March. KO 7.45pm.
