Warrington's Abacus Solicitors Community Stadium looks better than ever after a club sponsor sent a team of volunteers to spruce it up.

Locally-based United Utilities held a 'Clean Up Cantilever' volunteer day as part of their work in the community ethos.

The company sent a team of 20 staff down to the Evo-Stik NPL First Division North club where Wire mascot Ollie The Owl was on hand to join in and show the volunteers the ropes, pictured.

The water giants sponsor Warrington's Community Programme which provides football and coaching sessions to schools and junior teams across the town.

Unitied Utilities’ team leader Andrew Cunliffe said: "It's been great to come down and help to support our local Non-League club. It is a great set up they have here and we were only too happy to get out of the office for a day and provide a service to them."

The group cleaned changing rooms, cleared weeds, painted and even helped clear the car park in preparation for the club's next home game.

The Wire's Community Programme is led by development officer James Standing and he said: "The help this group have given us in the past and now has been fantastic and we cannot thank them enough.

"Every member of staff who has been down here from United Utilities has been a great worker and very complimentary about our facilities. It is just another step in the right direction for us and it is great to have another local company involved with Warrington Town."
