Wrens announce Ilkeston family day

Local derby will raise funds for charity.

RAINWORTH MW will be looking to raise valuable funds for their adopted charity, the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance, when they entertain local rivals Ilkeston in an Evo-Stik NPL Division One South fixture next Saturday.

Wrens officials have named the match as a family day and are hoping that the expected bumper gate will enable them to raise a sizeable amount for the charity.

The Robins are likely to bring a large following when they make the short trip up the M1 to Kirklington Road. And, with near neighbours Mansfield Town out of action that day, Rainworth hope that a number of Stags fans will swell the attendance still further.

The Wrens announced in pre-season that, when a fixture does not clash with a Mansfield home game, Stags season ticket holders will be admitted to Kirklington Road at the concessionary rate. But so far this season both clubs have generally been at home on the same date so the offer has not yet been properly put to the test.

Wrens’ commercial manager Steve Peat said: “The likelihood of a bumper gate gives us the ideal opportunity not only to boost our own coffers a little but also to help our chosen charity.
“We raised £120 for the Air Ambulance at our recent midweek friendly against Worksop Town, and that will be presented at the Ilkeston game.

“A bucket collection will be taken at the match and there also will be other opportunities to contribute. It’s a very worthwhile charity, no-one knows when they might need them, and our club is proud and delighted to be associated with them.”
