Wrens bounce back into duo's good books

Rainworth Miners Welfare's Ian Robinson and Gary Sucharewicz say they got exactly the reaction they wanted in Tuesday night's 2-2 EVO-STIK League draw at Goole AFC after Saturday's woeful home defeat by Romulus, writes Gordon Foster.

The Wrens had stuttered to their worst performance since Robinson and Sucharewicz, pictured, took over as the First Division South club's new joint managers and the duo had demanded a positive reaction at the Victoria Pleasure Ground after the 2-0 weekend reverse.

Despite taking a paper-thin squad to Humberside, the Wrens battled back after twice falling behind with the positive result extending their run of Tuesday night successes having lost just one Tuesday match so far this season in the Doodson Sport Cup at Loughborough under the guidance of former caretaker boss Dean Short in his last game in charge.

The pair are now looking to transfer their midweek form to Saturdays, starting this weekend when they make the tough trip to former Conference Premier club Stafford Rangers on Saturday.

Speaking after drawing with the Vikings game, Robinson said: "Goole is not an easy place to come to on a cold Tuesday night, and you have to bring your 'A-game' if you are going to come away with anything. The lads have showed consistently that they are up for the challenge, and Saturday was the first time they have failed to do that, so we wanted and needed a reaction, which I'm pleased to say was what we got tonight.

"One or two have left, one or two are carrying injuries, most of the lads are still in the process of regaining their fitness after a late start to their season, and we still need to add one or two to the squad. That's something we are working on but we have to be sure that we are bringing the right players in. The players we have got are showing a willingness to work hard, and put a shift in, we've seen that tonight, and we've come away from home and got a good point."

Robinson added: "It's a tough test for us. I've been there several times, played there, taken teams there. They have a big pitch, and also a partisan crowd behind them, but the lads should enjoy that. It's not often they get the chance to play in front of a sizeable crowd, so they will be well motivated, and tonight's performance should have put them in good heart for the challenge."
