Caretaker could take Steelmen up

Corby Town chairman Stevie Noble has told the Northamptonshire Telegraph that the Steelmen are happy to live by the old adage, ‘if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it’, after academy director Kinniburgh's impressive start as the successor to David Bell.

Noble told the northantstelegraph.co.uk on Wednesday that the EVO-STIK League North club's hierarchy will review plans to make a permanent appointment at Steel Park on a "month by month" basis with Kinniburgh seen as a key figure in the long-term development of their academy and work in the community and local schools.

Kinniburgh takes the rejuvenated Steelmen to Frickley Athletic on Saturday with Noble's backing after last Saturday's 5-0 win over Belper Town lifted them to fifth spot in the EVO-STIK League South table and Noble said: “We will continue to look at it on a month-by-month basis. The job Steve is doing is giving us a chance to take stock and sometimes you have to look at yourselves as well as everything else.

“The key to this is that as long as it is not having a massive impact on his other duties then we will keep it going. He has already had a couple of knocks with things like Ben Diamond leaving but Steve’s attitude is first class. If anything, doing the job is just enhancing his standing when he goes out to the schools and community to do his work.

“And the players within the academy are buzzing because they are seeing players getting an opportunity and they know that could be them before too long. We have full confidence in his ability. The team are playing very well and that has given everyone a lift."
