Chairman cheers off cup hopefuls

Nantwich Town boss Dave Cooke and his players are heading to Stevenage in the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday with chairman Tony Davison singing their praises and backing the Dabbers to keep the flag flying for the EVO-STIK League.

The Dabbers made their one and only appearance in the first round proper back in 2011 under former manager Jimmy Quinn and Davison, pictured, heaped praise on Cooke and his squad ahead of their bid to go one step further and make more history in Hertfordshire.

The EVO-STIK League Premier Division club's chairman has already seen the club bank more than £25,000 in prize money alone for wins over City of Liverpool, Shepshed Dynamo, Nuneaton Town and Kettering Town in the qualifying rounds and he won't be surprised if they add to that or at least book a place in Monday's draw for the second round.

As the Dabbers prepared to head south on Friday for an overnight stay, Davision told nantwichtownfc.co.uk: “I am extremely proud. It is a great achievement for a club the size of Nantwich Town and especially given the massive restructuring Dave Cooke has had to do with the squad. Dave, his coaches and the team have done a great job.

“It has generated TV, radio and press coverage we would normally never get. It has dramatically raised our profile, not just locally but nationally. It’s up there with the FA Trophy run of two years ago. We punched above our weight in that campaign and are repeating the feat this season.

“It’s not over yet though and I’m confident that we could make club history on Saturday. We have everything to play for and every chance. We will be going there to win. Dave is making sure we prepare properly.

“The team will be going down the day before, something we never normally do, giving them time to prepare and making sure we are fully focused on the game. If we play well we can win. It’s the FA Cup. Anything can happen.”
