Chairman makes cup call to fans

The FA Cup

Norton United chairman Steve Beaumont is calling on fans of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's newboys to turn out in numbers and roar them into the FA Cup's First Round proper for the first time in the club's history.

Last season's North West Counties League Premier Division champions have already entered the record books this season having never made it past the FA Cup's First Qualifying Round. After knocking out Runcorn on Saturday with a 5-2 win in the penultimate qualifying round, the Staffordshire outfit were handed a home tie against either Shildon or Stourbridge in Monday's Fourth Qualifying Round draw.

EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division Stourbridge host the Northern League club on Tuesday night after the sides drew 0-0 at the weekend and if the Miners can beat the winners at the Autonet Stadium on Saturday week, they'll bank another £12,500 in prize money in this season's competition under the guidance of manager Scott Dundas.

Beaumont said: "We have got the home draw we wanted. It will be a tough game against either of these teams but we do have a chance of getting to the First Round Proper. The lads have a real incentive and this will be a game where we will need the backing of the local supporters."
