Clitheroe name Dempsey as new manager

Clitheroe have named Dave Dempsey as their new manager on a permanent basis.

Having been appointed as assistant to player manager Billy Priestley early in the new year, he took over the role of first team manager on an interim basis until the end of the season when Priestley stepped down.

He has since steered the club to fifth in the Pitching In NPL West Division, losing three of his 10 games in charge.

Dempsey had previously managed Widnes FC but parted company with the club earlier this season after little over a year in charge.

“I am delighted to accept the permanent role as first team manager of this wonderful football club," he said.

"Since my arrival it has been a rollercoaster to say the least, coming in as assistant manager to Billy, taking ownership on an interim basis and now accepting the role permanently all since the end of November.

"Naturally we have had many ups and downs in such a short space of time, and I am looking forward to working with the group, with no uncertainty over ourselves or the players. As a collective, we are more than ready for the challenge.

"When I was asked to consider the role, there was no hesitation to me accepting on a permanent basis.

"I love the football club, the fanbase. The work the volunteers put in behind the scene is unrivalled. It is now hugely important we hit the ground running this week and continue to aim for the play-offs this season."
