Former Fulham midfielder Sean Doherty has returned to Marine to boost manager Kevin Lynch's promotion drive.

The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's Mariners announced on Tuesday that Lynch had resigned the former Everton Academy star, pictured, following his departure from Conference North Droyslden.

The 28-year-old started the season at AFC Liverpool and joined the Bloods at the start of January. Doherty, who has also scouted for Chelsea, first joined Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division Marine in February 2010 before leaving the Arriva Stadium the following summer for Colwyn Bay.

The former England Under 21 star brings a wealth of experience to Lynch's side in the final months of the season.

After starting his career in Everton's Academy, he moved to Fulham in July 2001 for an undisclosed fee. Since leaving the Cottagers in 2005, he's played for Dutch side ADO Den Haag, Port Vale, Accrington Stanley, Belgian club Royal Antwerp and League of Ireland Premier Division side Sligo Rovers. In July 2009 Doherty joined the Evo-Stik NPL with Witton Albion before his switch to Marine the following year.

Marine travel to Nantwich's Weaver Stadium in league action on Tuesday night.
