Dundas to be named within days

Former Norton United and Witton Albion Scott Dundas manager is expected to be formally unveiled as the new manager of EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Newcastle Town within days.

The 41-year-old - who guided Norton United to the North West Counties Premier Division title in April 2014 and promotion to the EVO-STIK NPL before guiding them to the first round of the FA Cup that year - will officially take over at Lyme Valley next week after failing to save Alsager Town from relegation from the North West Counties League Premier Division on Saturday when they drew 2-2 at Maine Road in their final outing of the season.

When Norton folded at the end of the 2014-15 after falling out with the owners of their Community Drive home, Dundas was appointed manager of EVO-STIK NPL First Division North Witton Albion before leaving after ten games at the helm and taking over at Alasager a few weeks later in October.

Newcastle Town general manager Geoff Eccleston has told the Stoke Sentinel that he is delighted with the appointment of Dundas, the brother-in-law of former manager Ivan Lodge who announced he was stepping down in April to concentrate on recovering from the stroke he suffered back in March.

Eccleston said: "We had 17 very good applicants for the job. We managed to whittle the number down to five and what swayed our decision to appoint Scott was his record over the past three seasons, which is very good. Scott has also managed in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League and had an exceptional season with Norton United before they folded."

Dundas is also delighted at the prospect of returning to manage again in the EVO-STIK NPL's First Division South.

Before Saturday's disappointment in Manchester, he told the paper's website: "I have enjoyed my time at Alsager, it has been hard work, but we have given ourselves a chance of staying up. However, this was too good a chance to manage at a level I am familiar with and I am looking forward to getting started next week."
