Blues chairman Stuart Highfield will have a new voice to call on at the Big Fellas Stadium next term after their third-placed finish in EVO-STIK League South following the appointment of businessman Alan Mears as a director.
Originally from Cannock in Staffordshire, Mears worked for Marks & Spencer for 11 years as an international training manager covering the whole of the UK and franchise business in France, Cyprus and Malta before opening the first of his three successful coffee shop businesses in Yorkshire 14 years ago.
Mears, whose appointment is subject to normal Football Association approval, told the Blues website: “I feel privileged and honoured at being asked to become a director at Frickley Athletic. I have passion for the game and an appetite for success both on and off the pitch and hopefully the skills and ability from my background will help the club grow and prosper.”
Blues chief executive Ryan McKnight, pictured left welcoming the new director to Westfield Lane, said: “I’ve got to know Alan over the last couple of years and have been nothing but impressed at his experience, manner and approach to business and football.
"We are still weak in a number of areas at the club and this appointment will see particular focus to those areas, leaning on Alan’s experience and expertise which will hopefully see some positive changes for our supporters."
