East Round-up: Wins for six of the top seven

By James Gordon

Six of the top seven teams won in the EVO-STIK League East Division on Saturday.

Tadcaster Albion ended a run of three games without a goal, but had to come from behind to draw 1-1 at home to Cleethorpes Town.

Josh Batty gave Cleethorpes a first half lead and Joe Lumsden equalised on 55 minutes.
Morpeth Town maintained their lead at the top with three first half goals as they beat Gresley 3-0.

David Carson’s penalty gave them the lead, and that was the first of three goals in 18 minutes, Michael Turner and Liam Henderson scoring the others.

Brighouse Town stand alone leading the chasing pack as they beat AFC Mansfield 3-0, thanks to goals from Aaron Martin, Thomas Haigh and Adam Jones.

They are five points clear of Pontefract Collieries, who overturned a 2-0 half-time deficit to win 4-2 at home to Belper Town.

Craig Nelthorpe’s penalty and Pitou Crouz had the visitors in the lead, but the game was turned on its head by three goals in six minutes after the hour mark.

Chris Jackson, Michael Dunn and Spencer Clarke put Colls 3-2 in front, and Eli Hey’s last minute penalty made the points safe.

Ted Cribley marked his return to Sheffield with the match winning goal as they beat Spalding United 2-1.

Marc Newsham gave them a 12th minute lead, and Leon Mettam equalised but a minute later Cribley made the difference.

Bottom club Stocksbridge Park Steels edged a point closer to the teams above them with a 0-0 home draw with Marske United.

Stamford gained revenge at Carlton Town, winning 4-0 having lost the reverse fixture early in the season.

Oliver Brown-Hill put them in front on seven minutes, and Robert Morgan’s brace made the points safe, before Ryan Seal added icing on the cake.

Jacob Hazel continued his recent goalscoring run, adding his 12th goal of the season in a 1-1 draw with Pickering Town, who had taken the lead through Nick Thompson.

Ossett United recorded their third straight win as they beat Lincoln United 1-0, to move within a point of the play-offs.

Adam Priestley’s first half goal was enough as Lincoln made it eight games without a win, a run that includes six defeats.

In the other game, Wisbech Town picked up a good 3-1 win at Loughborough Dynamo.

Jonathan Fairweather and Toby Hilliard had them 2-0 up inside 11 minutes, and Eoin McQuaid made sure of the points shortly after the hour mark after Karl Demidh had pulled one back from the penalty spot.
