The midfielder, who joined the relegated National League North club as a player back in 2008 under Burr and went on to captain his side for two seasons, left two years ago after returning to manage Celtic between 2013 and 2015.
Briggs, Burr's number two at Southport before his his return to Bowerfold in February, told fans he is looking forward to enjoying a successful third spell over the 2017-18 EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division campaign after signing on Monday.
Briggs, pictured, told the club's website: “I’m very pleased to be back at the club for my third spell. The club means a lot to me and has always been close to my heart. We want to hit the ground running next season and want the supporters to be proud of what we hopefully will achieve this year.
“I’ve worked with Steve in various roles over the course of my career as a player and manager so we have a strong working relationship. When he returned to Celtic this was always a possibility so I am pleased this has worked out.”
Stalybridge Celtic are returning to the EVO-STIK NPL for the first time since becoming one of the founder clubs of the old Conference North following the major restructuring of the Non-League pyramid for season 2004–05 by the Football Association.
