Lee Picton and Graham Fenton’s side began their 2020/21 FA Cup campaign at Cantilever Park, with nothing to separate them and the Yellows in 90-minutes and the tie decided by penalties, with the visitors progressing with a 6-5 penalty shoot-out win.
Since then, the Mariners have defeated Ashton United and National League North side Southport on penalties in their cup run, and will return to the 1st Cloud Arena this weekend for their FA Cup clash.
“Even though the league has produced a couple of disappointing results, we have played really well in the FA Cup so far this year and we want to carry that on as long as we can,” said Hunter.
“We know it will be a tough game, but making it to the first round proper would be a good achievement for us all and one that we are definitely capable of doing.
“It’s a really exciting fixture that all of the lads are looking forward to. It’s not often that you get to play against a team that are two leagues higher than you, so it’s been a good week of training from everyone and we all want to get to the next round.
“It is definitely a bonus to be playing at home in front of our own fans, it’s just a shame that we can’t get the full capacity in because I’m sure the crowd for this game would be over two thousand.”
Hunter received the club’s man of the match award in their mid-week 0-0 draw with Morpeth Town in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division.
He added: “It was a good game mid-week and one that I was happy to get man of the match in.
“I always want to play to the best of my ability so hopefully I can carry that on into the weekend and then more throughout the season.”
