New Carlton Town kit supporting brain tumour research

Carlton Town have unveiled their new 2022/23 away kit, which will support the work of Brain Tumour Research.

It is the first time in the Millers’ history that they have donated their front-of-shirt sponsor to charity.

The new pink jersey has Brain Tumour Research’s logo emblazoned across the front, and the club say a percentage of each shirt sale will go directly to the charity.

In another initiative, Carlton are offering a “Pay What You Want” option. The minimum amount will still be £36, the original price of the shirt, but supporters have the option to pay more than this, with 100% of any additional income going to Brain Tumour Research.

The club have decided to support this charity following Tom Claypole’s diagnosis of a Stage 4 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) Brain Tumour last summer. Tom is the 39-year-old son of Millers director of football Darryl Claypole.

Darryl said: “Brain Tumours kill more children and adults under 40 than any other cancer, yet historically less than 1% of all money spent annually on research is towards this devastating disease.

"As a family we have embarked on a number of fundraising challenges, but I am really excited about the new away shirt.

"I am really grateful for chairman Mick Garton agreeing to this. It’s a fantastic gesture and I would kindly ask as many Carlton Town fans to purchase this shirt so we can raise much needed funds into research but also spread awareness of this fantastic charity and the great work they do.”

Club chairman Mick Garton added: “We are delighted to be able to support Darryl and Brain Tumour Research. We know how personal this is to him so anything we can do as a club to help we will do.

"Not only is it supporting a worthwhile cause, but it’s also a fantastic looking kit and we are thankful to our partners EV2 Sportswear for designing and producing it.”

Matthew Price, community development manager at Brain Tumour Research said: “We’re really grateful to Darryl and everyone at Carlton Town Football Club, as it’s only with the support of people like them that we’re able to progress our research into brain tumours and improve the outcome for patients like Tom who are forced to fight this awful disease.

“Unlike many other cancers, brain tumours are indiscriminate. They can affect anyone at any time. Too little is known about the causes and that is why increased investment in research is vital.”
