Frickley launch community project

Scheme launched in partnership with local coaching firms

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side Frickley Athletic are launching an exciting new community project with local children.

The club are teaming up with two local successful sports provision companies, Pro-vision sports of Wakefield and Premier team coaching of Barnsley to deliver this.

The main goal of the project are to boost the level of sporting activity that children in the surrounding area do - promoting health, fitness, diet and educating children on the positive results of participating in sporting activities. This in turn will also build a strong community relationship between the children, parents and schools and Frickley Athletic.

The club will be going into local schools and offering an opportunity for the children to have a variety of different sports coached by highly enthusiastic and qualified coaches within both curriculum time and in after-school clubs. There will also be the opportunity for children to take part in Frickley Athletic holiday sports camps that will take place in every school holiday period.

Grant Black of Premier team coaching said, “This is a fantastic project that will boost the ability levels and improve the participation of children in sports in the local area but most importantly the project will improve the health, fitness and confidence of the children as well as providing an outlet to continue these sports outside of school ie with Frickley Athletic. It is a really exciting project on a community level, building relationships between Frickley Athletic and the schools and ultimately improving the opportunities for young people in the area.”

The project will be organised and delivered by Pro-vision sports and Premier team coaching. The five men involved in the project, James Dudgeon, Jamie Price( Pro-vision) and Grant Black, Mark Hume and Ryan Pugh, are all ex-professional footballers and understand the importance of sport as a vehicle to improve children’s health, fitness, confidence and ability to attain goals.

James Dudgeon added, “I speak on behalf of the five of us and Frickley Athletic Football Club, that sport has a tremendous value at any level, from professional to amateur and down to grass roots level. We are really excited to be given the opportunity to help improve the opportunities for young people in this area and give them a chance to try new sports. There will also be a scheme where the children from the local area will be able to go and watch Frickley Athletic’s home games for free every week, which will be great for them. It's a great project and we can't wait to get started!”

The project is great on so many levels and will starting within the next two weeks. We hope we can improve the sporting opportunities in the local area for the children and build a strong community bond.
