Garner returns in playing role

Former Clitheroe manager Simon Garner is back in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League as a Trafford player.

Garner, pictured, signed for the EVO-STIK NPL North club ahead of Saturday's 5-2 Emirates FA Cup win over Cheadle Town after leaving National League North Altrincham in the wake of Neil Young`s departure as manager.

The 34-year-old left his first managerial role at Shawbridge at the end of last season after moulding the Blues into promotion contenders and coming close to claiming a play-off spot.

He was offered a coaching role at Moss Lane in the summer after a playing career that has seen the midfielder turn out for the likes of Chorley, Halifax Town, Hyde United, Kendal Town, Northwich Victoria, Prescot Cables, FC United of Manchester and Fleetwood Town.
