Lotto underwrites community cause

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Ashton United are looking forward to spending nearly £10,000 of Big Lottery funding on a major community event.

Ashton United in the Community are celebrating a grant of £9,970 towards the costs of organising and delivering Hurstfest, a community event the Robins are staging at Hurst Cross in May 2017.

The EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division club's vice chairman Steve Hobson, the project manager at Ashton United in the Community, is now looking forward to getting on with the planning for the end of season celebration with other key stakeholders in the lcoal community.

Hobson said: "This is a very real opportunity for the people of Hurst and District to come together to celebrate everything that is great about the neighbourhood.

"We will be meeting with local representatives, community champions and other stakeholders with a view to establishing an organising committee whereupon we will then be able to identify and deliver the type of event that local people want.

"Thanks to Big Lottery we will provide a fun day out for all which we anticipate will be free to attend. Ashton United is delighted that we can act as a spark to ignite community spirit."

The Big Lottery distributes millions of pounds of the National Lottery's good cause money to community groups and charitable projects around the UK every year to help improve their local communities. For more information visit: www.biglotteryfund.org.uk.
