EVO-STIK League midfielder Andy Gascoigne is setting out this week to follow in the footsteps of former Sheffield FC star Jack Muldoon by earning a dream move to the Football League.

Striker Muldoon signed for Rochdale in May and Gascoigne, pictured, is heading for League Two Northampton this week to train with the Cobblers who are managed by ex-Sheffield United and Rotherham United star Chris Wilder.

Local lad Wilder has been a frequent visitor to the world’s oldest club over the past few seasons and having ensured Northampton’s survival on the last day of the season, has earmarked the 22-year-old as a potential recruit to bolster his squad at Sixfields.

A number of other clubs including three from the Conference Premier are said to be considering moves for the free-scoring Gascoigne who struck 22 goals in 42 appearances for the First Division South club last term.
