Good news boosts Blues

Leek Town

Leek Town's talented midfielder Christian Millar is going nowhere despite a seven day notice of approach from Newcastle Town.

The talented midfielder has pledged his immediate future to the Evo-Stik NPL First Division South club after turning down the chance to switch to their league rivals after talks with Blues manager Lee Casswell.

Prior to Saturday's defeat at Coalville, Millar had failed to win a shirt in the previous two games prompting the enquiry from Castle manager John Diskin. Casswell reassured the former Macclesfield Town player he still had a future at Harrison Park and he made an appearance from the bench during Saturday's defeat at league leaders Coalville Town .

Casswell has also completed the signing of defender Michael Thomas from Colwyn Bay after receiving international clearance in time for the eight goal thriller at Owen Street.

Leek ended up on the wrong end of a 6-2 scorline and are now aiming to bounce back quickly. Leek say Casswell’s injury headaches are also easing to help that task.

Striker Dan Cope begins his fight with the reserves on Wednesday night to gain match fitness after sitting out the season with a niggling knee injury picked up in the final pre-season friendly at Buxton.

The manager also received some welcome news at the weekend from combative midfielder Anthony Danylyk who came through 90 minutes with Norton United in their draw at Colne on Saturday.

Danylyk, who is playing on loan with the North West Counties League side, will also play in their home game on Wednesday as he continues to regain match fitness after damaging his ankle in Leek's opening game of the season at Romulus.

Goalkeeper Danny Roberts is also hoping to get the all clear from his orthopaedic specialist this week to start playing again after breaking a finger in September’s home game against Gresley.
