Hyde United end search for new goalkeeper

Hyde United have signed former Liverpool goalkeeper Dan Atherton.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a stand-out 2021/22 campaign, making 49 appearances in all competitions as he helped Warrington Town reach the Northern Premier League play-off final.

He subsequently moved to The New Saints (TNS) in the Welsh Premier League.

Atherton made his Tigers debut in Saturday’s FA Cup fourth qualifying round defeat to Buxton at Silverlands.

His arrival at the club comes following the departure of Gio Bellagambi, who was recalled by parent club Huddersfield Town following a string of impressive displays.

Atherton could make his league debut for Hyde away at Bamber Bridge tomorrow night.
