Kiddy mascot

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Kidsgrove Athletic are sending a new mascot out into the community to drum up support among younger fans.

Billy The Kidsgrove Kid, pictured, was introduced to fans at The Grove on the opening day of the season and is set to pay regular visits to local schools in the near future to promote the First Division South club and the exploits of manager Peter Ward's side.

According to officials at the Staffordshire club, their new mascot is already having the desired effect at the Novus Stadium, posing for snaps and putting the smile back on the faces of fans at the weekend after the club's 2-1 home defeat at the hand of Goole AFC.

Ward's side have since gotten off the mark with a 1-1 draw at Chasetown on Tuesday night and a club spokesman said: "As he was made in China, Billy was teased to the fans at the weekend as our new 'marquee' signing which was about the only humorous spark in a pretty poor Kidsgrove display!"
