Lawson in the running to return

Lawson, who was succeeded at the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division's basement club by Alan Rogers this week after ten years at the helm, hailed his time at Stormy Corner as a “fantastic journey” before telling the local media he hadn't ruled out returning to management.

Appointed as the successor to Paul Gallagher for the 2006-07 season, Lawson, pictured, led the club to promotion to the EVO-STIK NPL's top flight after five consecutive play-off finishes in his first five seasons.

Lawson, who also developed a long line of Non-League graduates to the pro game along the way including the likes of Craig Noone, Ben Tolitt and Sean McConville, told champnews.com: “This is something I've done for 25 years and if someone wanted to speak to me and tap into my experience, I would be happy to speak to any ambitious and well-run club.

“Seeing some of the young lads come up and turn professional has been brilliant. Also getting to the play-off finals five times and coming runners-up twice. It has been a fantastic journey and a great ten years. I'm very proud of what I have achieved at Skelmersdale and I thank them wholeheartedly."

He added: “I wish the club all the best in the future and also the new manager. I hope he has as much fun as I had.”
