Leek Town update, by Michael Cope

Leek Town Football Club is continuing it's commitment to the community at large with the launch of its Community Scheme in the near future.

Over the coming weeks the scheme will begin delivering activities around the whole of the Staffordshire Moorlands.

This part of the football club will be responsible for engaging the community in a variety of ways, with a variety of activities.

Steven Kell will have the task of initiating and developing this project over the coming weeks, months and years.

Leek Town is a football club that has developed rapidly over the last few years and a natural progression now is Community Development scheme.

Steve has been working in community and sport development for a number of years and most recently he was Senior Development Officer of Macclesfield Town FC’s Community Sports Trust.

The scheme be setting up various activities in the local community that will tackle participation, education, environment, social inclusion, health & wellbeing as well as employment and will deliver many different schemes to the whole of the Staffordshire Moorlands and the wider community.

Activities range from after-school clubs and Saturday morning clubs to holiday courses and street soccer to tackle social inclusion, alternative education to reach disengaged children in schools and job clubs to help with unemployment, these are just a few of the long term goals of this project.

This is a long term commitment that will take time to build, but with activities intending to start as early as May this year, with the first holiday club scheduled for the June half term (venue-TBC), it will surely be a thriving part of the community very soon.

So, keep an eye out for Leek Town Community delivering activities near you. All future activities will be posted in the Community Development section of the Club’s website.

After the home game against New Mills on Monday, Blues bid a fond farewell to three of it’s on-loan stars.

Defender Jack Lane and midfielder Adam Roberts are due to return to parent club Macclesfield Town after completing one-month deals whilst defender George Ray returns to Crewe after spending three months at Harrison Park.

However, Leek Town manager Lee Casswell will be able to call on the services of Jon Guthrie (Crewe) and Matt Bell (Mansfield Town) for the final four games of the season.
