Macclesfield bring in new goalkeeper

Macclesfield have announced the signing of goalkeeper Ollie Byrne.

The 6'2 shot-stopper arrives at the Leasing.com Stadium following his departure from National League side Altrincham last month.

He featured regularly for Alty last season and also boasts previous experience in Ireland and Wales with Cork City and Connah’s Quay Nomads respectively.

He becomes the second goalkeeper to join the club this month, with former Atherton Collieries, Guiseley and Clitheroe shot-stopper Danny Taberner also making the move to the Northern Premier League side on a deal until the end of the season.

Their arrival comes following the news that Joe Hilton will be sidelined for up to eight weeks after suffering an injury in their recent 2-0 victory at Ashton United - a game which he was also sent off in midway through the second half.

Byrne's signing is one of a number of changes to Macclesfield's goalkeeping department, with Connor O'Keefe - who has featured 14 times for the Silkmen in all competitions this season but hasn't made a league appearance since October - joining National League North side Warrington Town on dual-registration.
