Merson booked by Dynamo

The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's Loughborough Dynamo have booked former Arsenal and England legend Paul Merson to entertain fans at the first in a series of sportsman's dinners.

Now a regular pundit on Sky Sports, the First Division South outfit say they are 'delighted' that Merson, pictured, has agreed to be their guest of honour at the event at Loughborough's Charwood College on Saturday 13 July.

Merson famously won a long battle against drink and gambling and Dynamo say he'll be entertaining guests with anecdotes from his colourful past as a player and current career as one of football's most sought after pundits.

In 2006 the former midfield maestro turned out for Tamworth and last year briefly came out of retirement to play a single game for Welshpool. Dynamo Secretary Brian Pugh is certain guests will enjoy hearing him look back on his career and give his opinions on the current state of football.

Pugh said: "Here is a man who has truly confronted his demons and is not afraid to discuss them openly. He is a joy to listen to and can captivate any audience with the story of his amazing journey."

Supporting Merson on the night will be highly acclaimed celebrity impressionist Mike Maguire who's currently taking the comedy circuit by storm.

Most recently, Maguire earned rave reviews at the Palace Theatre in Manchester for his act which includes more than 100 impressions of some of Britain's best known faces from the world of sport and showbiz including the likes of Sir Terry Wogan, Bob Geldof, Sir Trevor Brooking, Jim Bowen, Mick McCarthy, Sir Alex Ferguson, Frank Bruno and Alan Hansen.
