Millers captain hangs up boots

Carlton Town captain Martin Ball has announced his retirement from football.

Ball first played for the club’s academy 18 years ago, and 12 of his seasons in the game have been spent at the Millers.

He has made 16 appearances in all competitions this season and departs with the club sat 17th in the Pitching In NPL East Division.

“I’d like to thank everyone associated with Carlton Town over the last 18 years that I’ve been at the club, both on and off,” Ball said.

“From playing in the academy at 17, to captaining the club this year, I’ve enjoyed every minute and can honestly say I’ve given everything every time I’ve pulled on the shirt."

Millers joint-manager Tommy Brookbanks said: “I just want to thank Martin for the service he’s given to Carlton town.

“In his first stint, he helped us achieve promotion and play-offs, having come through our academy system.

“Then in this latest stint, he proved everyone wrong at 32 and has given us almost four years of superb performances and service, as well as being our skipper.”
