Curzon Ashton made it two wins from two in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's new First Division North campaign on Monday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

While Curzon have made a flying start, visitors Radcliffe Borough are still searching for a first point after a 3-1 defeat.

The crucial moment of the game at the Tameside Stadium arrived as early as the 12th minute when Curzon were awarded a penalty. Boro's goalkeeper Sam Andrew was shown a straight red card for the foul and outfield player Dennis Sheriff was forced to don the gloves.

He couldn't prevent Chris McDonagh from giving the hosts the lead from the spot. It got worse for the visitors five minutes before half-time when Caldon Henson put the ball past his own keeper to give Curzon a two-goal cushion at the break.

Battling Boro did well in the second period, however, and even managed to reduce the arrears a couple of minutes from time through Kevin Sanasy. But the hosts restored their two-goal margin in stoppage time, courtesy of Mark Bett's striker a minute into time added on.
