Mickleover Sports entered their game on the 3G at Coles Lane against mid-table Romulus knowing that a win could take them to the top of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division South table on Monday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.
Mickleover came into the game on a run of eleven games unbeaten in the league and nine in succession in all competitions. Roms were also in decent form, however, having lost just once in their previous eight matches.
It was goalless at the break on a cold and increasingly foggy evening. But it was the home side who broke the deadlock in the 55th minute with a fine strike from Luke Keen. And just five minutes later, Roms doubled their advantage through Courtney Richardson.
That ended Sports' marvellous run and lifted Romulus to tenth in the table, but all credit to Mickleover manager Glenn Kirkwood, who came into the dressing room and congratulated the players afterwards.
