Ossett Town manager Craig Elliott has handed the skipper's armband to defender Ryan Qualter ahead of the start of the new Evo-Stik Northern Premier League campaign on Saturday.
The First Division North manager opted for the 21-year-old centre half on Thursday and revealed that he'd spotted Qualter's potential soon after his arrival from Tadcaster Albion last season.
Elliott said: "Even though he is young his leadership qualities are there to be seen on and off the pitch. He is a poplar member of the team with both the squad and officials at Ossett Town so it was a pretty natural decision really."
Qualter is delighted to captain the Reds over the coming campaign and has set himself a minimum target of leading the club to a top ten finish.
He said: "I’ve been given the armband and it a great personal achievement. However, the squad is full of leaders and if we all pull together we will have a successful season."
