Plenty to play for, insists Gee

Rainworth Miners Welfare manager Kevin Gee is in defiant mood ahead of Saturday's Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South visit of runaway leaders Coalville Town, writes Gordon Foster.

Despite their disappointing recent form, the Wrens are safe from relegation for the third year running and Gee, pictured, believes supporters can now look forward to seeing their side beat last season's points total and even pick up some silverware come the end of the campaign.

With eight league games to go and a Notts Senior Cup semi-final at Sutton Town in April to come, Gee insisted there was plenty to play for as he rallied his side to defy the pundits at the weekend and reopen the title race by getting a result at home to the league leaders.

He said: "Yes, we are a bit inconsistent at the minute but I don't think anybody this year has actually taken us apart, but we have to try to iron out unforced errors. We have a fantastic group of honest players and training and the intensity has been good this week, so we need to bring a few more smiles to everybody's faces again and look forward to the last month, not fear it."

Gee's side face three top ten teams in succession at home – starting with Coalville on Saturday followed by Northwich and then Sheffield – and he is hoping his squad can go into all three full confidence after securing safety.

He added: "Although I'm sure everyone connected with the club would agree that results in March have been disappointing and left everyone a little flat, we have to keep trying to take the positives out of the situation and keep working hard to try and turn it around."
