Premier Division round-up: South Shields extend lead as play-off race heats up

By James Gordon

South Shields were back to winning ways as four of the top five teams enjoyed victories this weekend.

The Mariners once again left it late to snatch a result away at Belper Town as Jordy Mongoy's goal ten minutes from full-time extended their lead back to nine points at the top of the table.

After capitalising on South Shield's slip-up on Tuesday, Hyde United were forced to fight back at Matlock Town.

Alex Byrne converted from the spot just before the hour mark to put the Gladiators in front, before Jack Redshaw rescued a point with just seven minutes of normal time remaining.

Radcliffe enjoyed their fourth consecutive victory with a 3-1 win on the road at Guiseley.

Luca Navarro's brace and Evan Bange's finish moves Boro to within three points of the Tigers in second.

Warrington Town extended their unbeaten run to 14 games after Dec Walker's free kick secured a 2-1 victory over Marske United on the Yorkshire Coast.

Bamber Bridge were back to winning ways after beating Atherton Collieries 2-0 at home, while Gainsborough Trinity overturned Ashton United's 2-1 advantage to claim all three points in a 3-2 win to leave them just one point behind the Brig who occupy the final play-off position.

Elsewhere, Stafford Rangers claimed a 2-0 victory away at Stalybridge Celtic.

Joe Kenton and Tom Tonk's penalty leaves the Celts just three points above the relegation places.

David Norris' brace was enough to secure a 2-0 victory for Lancaster City at home to Whitby Town.

At the Clayborn Ground, Liversedge were able to hold on to their 1-0 lead over Marine, with Nathan Cartman's first half goal giving the hosts their eighth win of the season.

In the day's other fixtures, Warrington Rylands and FC United of Manchester played out a 0-0 draw, while Nantwich Town were denied a point on the road at Morpeth Town after Matty Cornish scored late on to take all three points in a 2-1 win.
